Note: This walk includes a remarkable view of the magnificent Ouse Valley Viaduct and a lovely reservoir before lunch and we pass through Kew Gardens' country cousin, Wakehurst Place and past a pretty lake in the afternoon. Bring packed lunch. Possible pub stop at lunchtime and at end of walk.

Travel: Take 9:45 from London Waterloo (9:52 Clapham Junction), arr. Farncombe 10:30. Buy return to Witley.

Note: Walk mostly follows the Greensand Way, drop out points at 11 miles. Pub stop during and after walk it Witley, 1 mile away from station. Bring packed lunch.

A lovely little jaunt through North-West London taking in the Grand Union Canal, Horsenden Hill and Harrow School. Pub at the end!

Walk takes in Hatfield Forest, bring a packed lunch. Pub stop at the end at The Gate pub.

Travel: Take 9:40 from London Liverpool Street (9:52 Tottenham Hale), arr. Bishops Stortford 10:15. Buy return to Bishop's Stortford.

This walk closely follows the Beverley Brook through Wimbledon Common, Richmond Park and Barnes Common to the River Thames upstream of Putney. Please eat lunch before walk.

A walk through the contrasting landscapes of central London. The plan is to finish in the Roebuck pub in Borough.

Visit the beautiful gardens and woodland surrounding Nymans before walking under the imposing Balcombe viaduct and along the shores of a reservoir. Bring a packed lunch as afternoon pub stop for drinks only.

Travel: Take 11:10 from London Charing Cross (11.13 London Waterloo East), arr, Chislehurst 11:36.

Note: We'll walk the 5 minutes to the caves, which are reputed to be haunted, and should be able to take the guided tour at midday (£6 payable on the day), which will last about 45 minutes. Afterwards, we'll eat our packed lunches. The cave manager can accommodate reasonable sized groups. For the avoidance of doubt, if we turn up with a really big group, there is an outside chance the walk leader will need to rejig the day, cancel the cave visit or extend the walk to 9 miles.

If you would like to come on the walk, but not go to the caves, please catch the 12:36 train from London Charing Cross (12:39 Waterloo East), arr. Chislehurst 13:03. You can join us at the Caves (Caveside Close, BR7 5NL). The walk leader will also go the station after the tour to meet any walkers from this train there. There is no mobile phone coverage inside the caves, and the tour could overrun, so please don't worry if you want to meet us at the station and the walk leader has not got there by 13:03.

We'll then go on the walk, taking in Petts Wood, Scadbury Park and Chislehurst Common, finishing in a pub (probably the Tigers Head), which serves food.Return travel is from Chislehurst station.

Bring packed lunch. We will visit an overlooked gatehouse near Luton and later visit Batford Springs. There will be an early lunch and pub stop.

Travel: Take the 10:18 from London St Pancras, arrive Luton Airport Parkway at 10:54. Buy a return to Luton Airport Parkway. Exit via the airport shuttle route, do not exit via Kimpton Road exit.

We'll head north across the river and take in one or two interesting sites along the way. Walk finishes in one of London's "proper boozers", The Wenlock Arms.

This is the easiest of this year's Mountain Fitness walks, the rest of the walks gradually get harder and the amount of hills involved increases. This walk will be held at a fast pace with several steep ascents and descents. Bring packed lunch, pub stop during and after walk, meeting up with the shorter walk ending in Haslemere today.

Travel: Take 9:00 from London Waterloo, arr. Haslemere 9:54.

Terrain: Hilly, 864 m ascent

Travel: Take 9:16 from London Victoria (9:22 Clapham Junction, 9:32 East Croydon), arr. Eastbourne 10:44. Buy return to Eastbourne.

Terrain: Cliffs, hilly

The walk will take in the rolling countryside near Biggin Hill through woods and parkland, past the grounds of Holwood House and includes a stop at the Wilberforce Oak - a site of historical importance in the 19th abolitionist movement. There will be a pub stop for lunch in the village of Downe, but feel free to bring a packed lunch also. There will also be a pub stop at the end in Hayes.

Travel: Take 10:06 from London Charing Cross (10:09 London Waterloo East), arr. Knockholt 10:48. Can use Oyster throughout.

This walk takes in Marley Common and the National Trust's Black Down, with some lovely views over the South Downs. Some parts likely to be very muddy. Please bring a packed lunch. We will stop at the Swan Inn in Haslemere at the end to join up with the longer walk also ending in Haslemere today.

Travel: Take 10:30 from London Waterloo, arr. Haslemere 11:20.

Travel: Take the 8.47 from London Victoria (8.54 Clapham Junction, 9:08 East Croydon), arrive Lewes 10:12.

Terrain: 3 hills, 550m total ascent, one steep descent.

Drop out: Bus from Glynde (4 miles), Southease (7miles).

A walk through the posh streets of west London to Parsons Green. Walk finishes at the White Horse next to Parsons Green tube station (District Line). Mostly street lit by you may wish to bring torch for use in Parks.

This walk is part of the Mountain Fitness series so we will be aiming for a fast pace. Pub stop for drinks only and pub at the end. Bring a packed lunch.

Take 12:28 service from London Waterloo (12:38 Clapham Junction), arr. Twickenham 12.51. Please meet in the station foyer.

This is a nice relatively flat walk largely along the banks of the Thames. We'll pass Eel Pie Island, of music industry fame, and cross Teddington Lock, the limit of the Tidal Thames, among other bits and pieces.

The walk will end at a pub close to Teddington station. The walk leader apologises if he cannot stay for a drink, though others are welcome to.
