How to join

New members welcome!

You're welcome to join our group whatever sort of walker you are. You will find us friendly and accommodating and we hope that you'll enjoy walking with us and joining in our various social activities.

If you are not yet a member of the Ramblers Association you are welcome to accompany us for up to three walks before deciding whether to join the group. Take a look at the upcoming walks programme on the front page of the website. There are usually a few people on each walk who haven't been before.

Membership of Metropolitan Walkers costs around £35 per year (or £23 concessionary rate), and then there's no other charge for coming on any of our regular walks.

Membership benefits include:

  • Quarterly programme of walks, socials and weekends away
  • Regular email updates on any changes to the programme, engineering works, extra socials etc.
  • Eligibility to participate in weekends away and socials
  • Freedom to walk with any Ramblers group in the country
  • Quarterly award-winning walk magazine
  • 15% discount at Cotswold Outdoor with membership card
  • Your membership fee helps the Ramblers protect footpaths and walking spaces for everyone to enjoy

How do I join the Met Walkers?

To join the Met Walkers you need to join the Ramblers.

In the second section of the form, under the heading 'Your group', choose the Inner London area then the Metropolitan Walkers group. To receive communications from us, you need to provide your email address to Ramblers when you join (and update Ramblers if your email changes).

How do I receive your updates?

Once you've joined Ramblers and selected Metropolitan Walkers as your group, you should automatically get onto our mailing list and receive programmes and other communications from us. This can take a month or two, so please bear with us.

You can also join our members-only Facebook group. Once you have requested to join the group, it may take a day or two for us to process your request. If you have asked to join the group and your Facebook profile name is different to your full name, please reply to this email to let us know your Facebook name.

If you're an existing member and not receiving programmes or emails, this could be for a number of reasons. But it’s usually due to a problem with your Ramblers membership details (e.g.you haven’t updated your preferences to receive emails, you forgot to renew or notify of a change of email, or Ramblers don’t have your email address). Most of these issues can be solved by logging into your Ramblers account or emailing Ramblers at This email address is being protected from spambots. If Ramblers have confirmed that your membership details are up to date, then contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You can also view the full programme here by logging in using the username and password which is emailed to all members every three months.

How do I renew my membership?

If you are an existing member, you can renew your Ramblers membership online or use the paper form you will have received in the post. You will need an account on the Ramblers website in order to renew online.

We recommend that you set up a direct debit to ensure that your membership doesn't lapse and you always receive our programme!

I am already a member of another Ramblers group. Can I still join the Met Walkers?

If you are a member of any other Ramblers group you are welcome to become an associate member of Metropolitan Walkers for free - and enjoy all the benefits of Met Walkers membership (other than being able to vote at our AGM). To become an associate member, just email Ramblers at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. quoting your full name and membership number and ask to be added as an associate of Metropolitan Walkers (IL50); also make sure you are signed up to receive emails from Ramblers.
