Easter Peak District: Buxton Thu 29 Mar (eve) to Mon 2 Apr

Initial information re the Easter break to the Peak District. We stay in the picturesque market town of Buxton, easy to reach by train. This has good accommodation, pubs, restaurants and other culture. We have around 50 people so far, so it's shaping up to be a good crowd!

The rough plan is as follows (some timings and other details to be confirmed).

Thursday evening

Meet in a town centre pub (TBA)

Good Friday

Long walk: Dovedale (16 miles)
0913 bus out (route 442, stop D at the Market Place) to Newton House, New Inns
1700 bus back from Biggin Church
These are small buses and we are unlikely to all fit - those in group accommodation will need to get taxis to supplement capacity please
Bring a packed lunch

Shorter walk: Whaley Bridge to Buxton via Cat's Tor and Shining Tor.
12 miles, 700m ascent.
Take 9:27 train from Buxton to Whaley Bridge, arriving 9:44. Bring a packed lunch.

Evening pub TBA

Long walk: High Peak / Kinder Scout walk (16 miles in remote mountain terrain, 800m ascent approx)
Probable access route (easier than it sounds) is train to New Mills Newtown / short walk to New Mills Central / train to Edale. Anyone with cars may wish to drive as it is a circular walk.

Shorter walk: Fenny Bentley to Hartington via Dove Dale and Wolfscote Dale. 10 miles, 450m ascent.
Take bus 442 at 8:48 from Market Place, arriving Fenny Bentley 9:51. Return bus 4:37pm from Hartington. Slightly cheaper to buy a "Peak Plus" day ticket for £7.50 than two singles. Bring a packed lunch.

Evening pub TBA

Easter Sunday

Walk Buxton - Bakewell via the Monsal trail and various detours (16 miles)
Easy bus ride back

Evening pub TBA

Easter Monday

Goyt's Moss and Errwood Reservoir (10 miles)
