Postby DavidK » Wed Mar 29, 2017 8:59 pm

A return to the historic port town of Whitby, famous for its winding cobbled streets, fish and chips, vampires and its abbey towering above it all.

There will be a mixture of walks featuring some of the highest coastal cliffs in England, quaint fishing villages, remote locations within the North York Moors, waterfalls, peaceful Eskdale valley villages and a ride on its famous steam railway into its iconic TV heartbeat location of the Goathland Valley.

Travel to Whitby

The North Cleveland Coastline - 17 miles (optional 12 miles for late starters)
Bus ride up to Loftus for start. Route follows dramatic clifftop paths through quaint fishing villages and beaches, ends in Whitby.

The Lonely Lion and the Esk Valley walk - 16 miles

Starting and finishing in Castleton, this route will lead us onto Blakey Moor with its panoramic views over lush green valleys, we will stop by the Lion Inn before heading back into the Esk Valley.

The South Cleveland Coastline - 16 miles(optional dropout at 10 miles)

Bus ride to Cloughton following more clifftop paths and taking in Robin Hood's Bay before finishing back in Whitby.

Waterfalls And Steam - 14 miles

Route begins along the Cinder path before passing by will Mallyan Spout and Falling Foss waterfalls and into Goathland where we will aim to catch the 15:50 Steam train back to Whitby(arr. 16:55).

Depart Whitby

Be aware there is a 60's festival this weekend so if you struggle to find a B&B then it may be worth booking a cottage to share with
There are plenty available on this site - yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk
For camping options I would suggest Broadings Farm Campsite just outside Whitby.
