Welcome to the Metropolitan Walkers

Varied and exciting walking programme

With five walks a week to choose from with everything from evening strolls through London’s parks to hiking Ben Nevis “the hard way”, there are walks to suit everyone no matter your fitness level.

Make new friends

Our members range in age from people in their 20s to early 40s. Most of our walks end at the pub - a great way to get to know fellow members. Our packed social programme includes restaurant meals, concerts, theatre shows, ceilidh dancing and our monthly pub night.

Escape London to discover new parts of the UK

As well as walking in the Capital and beautiful areas near London such as the North Downs, South Coast and Chilterns, the group has weekends away most months to the UK’s top hiking destinations such as the Lake District, Snowdonia, Scotland and the Peak District. Members can find out more about our ‘Weekends Away’, from reading their copy of the current walks programme and also the Forum.

Get fit

Did you know that a brisk one mile walk burns around 100 calories? We believe getting out and walking beats going to the gym any day!

No car needed

All of our walks are accessible by public transport which means they generally start and finish at a rail or tube station.

Get involved

The group is run entirely by volunteers. All walks are led by members of the group and participation is encouraged.

Membership benefits

You are welcome to try out up to three walks before joining and most walks generally have at least one new member. Membership costs just £29.50 per year. Members receive our programme of walks, socials and weekends away, email updates on any changes to the programme, the quarterly Walk magazine, the handbook “Walk Britain” and 10% off at outdoor shops Millets, Blacks and Rohan. Your membership fee supports the Ramblers Association's charitable work to promote walking and to ensure access to our footpaths is protected.

How to join

To join please click here and ensure that you specify that you wish to join the Metropolitan Walkers or you will be assigned to a group by your postcode. If you pay by direct debit, you will receive one month free.
